Day-Drinker Happy Hours in Sayulita

Sayulita does not require a plan — and honestly, it’s better without one. But knowing where to land when thirst hits definitely helps… especially when there are so many solid options within walking distance.

One thing you won’t find here? Premade, preservative-filled mixes. This town takes its cocktails seriously. Everything is hand-crafted. Everything is fresh. And the tequila? You’re in one of the five states in Mexico that actually produces it — so don’t look like a clueless tourist ordering the brand-name stuff from back home. Trust the house. Your head will thank you tomorrow.

After diligently (and repeatedly) testing beach bars, rooftop views, and a few places that looked promising but weren’t, these are the daytime happy hours actually worth your time. Sayulita is a paradise for day-drinkers and night owls alike — great drinks, friendly people, and zero reservations required.

Best people watching → El Barrilito

Barrilito, Sayulita

One of the best ways to enjoy Sayulita is to just sit and stare. The balcony at Barrilito provides the perfect perch to watch the action while sipping a 2×1 Margarita, Gin & Tonic, or Tequila Sunrise.

Happy hour runs from 2-7pm.

Best deal → Luna’s

Restaurant Luna's, Sayulita

Not just the best deal, but Luna’s margaritas are some of the best in town … and that’s saying a lot in a town that prides itself on hand crafted cocktails!

Luna’s all-day happy hour includes 2-for-1 margaritas and mojitos for $100 pesos and 2-for-1 piña coladas for $130 pesos.

The food is really good, too! Unlike most spots, Luna’s make their own tortillas… so light and chewy! Everything here is made from scratch in the open kitchen.

Best rooftop vibe → Alto Alto

Alto Alto, Sayulita

After a night out, this open and airy two-story restaurant is the perfect place to look out over the town while recovering with fresh, innovative brunch dishes and breakfast happy hour mimosas! The atmosphere is soooo relaxing that we ‘accidentally’ end up spending a few hours just sipping and chilling.

Alto Alto does not have a designated gluten-free menu, but there are plenty of naturally gluten-free options. My personal favorite is the shakshuka!

Morning happy hour starts at 8:30am.

Best relaxing brunch hangout → Chaman

Chaman, Sayulita

Between the hand-crafted cocktails, from-scratch food, class-act servers, and friendly people to chat with at the bar, it’s easy to let half the day slip away here… and I often do!

2×1 Breakfast Mimosas run from 9:30am-11:30am. And, while they might not be a happy hour special, I highly recommend the strawberry margaritas (shaken, not frozen)!! Best in town and filled with fresh, tart strawberries.

Chaman’s menu includes gluten-free and vegan options.

Best all day → Aaleyah’s Nachos & Wings

Aaleyahs, Sayulita

Whoever says Disneyworld is the ‘happiest place on Earth’ has clearly never been to Aaleyah’s!! It is impossible to be in a bad mood when you are surrounded by these friendly faces… and that warmth comes through in the food!

Every meal that we’ve eaten at Aaleyah’s has been amazing! The fajitas are not your run-of-the mill platter of sliced meat and peppers… these have FLAVOR!! And the meat is so tender. My #1 pick, though, is the spicy fish! I could drink that red, fiery sauce!

Speaking of drinks, the 2×1 margaritas and piña coladas run all day long… and the piña coladas are as big as your head! Not only is the food house-made… so is the tequila and it makes for some of the best margaritas in town.

Gluten-intolerant? No problem! Most of the menu items are naturally gluten-free (aside from obvious things like burgers). The wings are grilled so no need for a dedicated fryer.

If you don’t stop at Aaleyah’s while you’re in Sayulita, you are seriously missing out!! This is not a wing and nacho joint… Aaleyah’s is family feeding friends and that passion comes through in every sip and bite!

Sayulita doesn’t need a plan — but a well-timed margarita helps. These are the spots I go back to over and over again. If you find a better one, tell me. I’ll happily test it!
